I Love My Garden

'He who plants a seed believes in tomorrow' - I Strongly believe :) ......

I love my Garden and the beauty it bring to me and others. It's therapy for me, like reading books are to some people. Knowing that I grew something myself is satisfaction whether it be come seeds I started or purchased the starter plants from a local garden center or nursery. I won a prize  for maintaining and decorating  my Garden for the first time in Year 2013 from Local Govt Authority, I never imagined before that in gardening I can get some reward and publish my name in local news paper. Now, I had reasonable amount of success and it gives me great pleasure to look at all my successes and to know I nurtured it from seed to a plant.

My wife and me are the youngest on our court of 3 block houses, my house is at T-junction; most residents don't have much space to develop garden and they may only plant few container / pots each Seasons for color..anything else is evergreens or arborvitaes because they are low maintence. I have to have  greenery, flowers around me.

I love to see the beauty surround me and one day my neighbor walks by and Thanks me for beautifying our neighborhood. That is another reason why I love to grow greenery and flowers.

This year my hanging pots &  bushes are lush with blooms, and I have been sharing with a lot of my neighbors. I just created a new vertical garden in the front  of our house so the neighbors infront of us would have something pretty to look at when they look out their windows.

I love to sit back and take snaps, enjoying my hard work.

I love the compliments from neighbors and friends.

I love talking about gardening with co-workers/friends/family.

I love the anticipation of "what will bloom next" or "what will my garden look like next week".

It is the most calming thing I can imagine. I joke that it is my therapy, but it isn't half way joking in truth.

Any time I can't get into the yard for even a couple of days, I notice am more tense and easier to anger.
Looking at the beauty in my gardens is one of the big pleasures in my life.

This will definitely be a life long hobby for me :)

I like it because it's exciting. I like to mix in colours and then wait out the full effects. It's like a new gift every spring - you forget what's in the groun and when they start popping out, what a sight it is. I think gardening is in my genetic code: the desire to dig soil, plant seeds, watch plants grow. Since childhood I am passionate about garden, my grand parents used to grow plants on the roof in small containers, bottles, usually recycled

I wanted to share this with you because I find that there is so much trouble in this world, and it always becomes news. Here’s some great news to share about my green buddies! People’s hearts are good. People are generous. People want to make a positive difference. People can do what they are able, and make a big change for someone else. Young people are eager to help. This world is a kind place. Maybe if we remember that, it will help us to do what we can to make it that way. Make our environment green and clean.

Today, I just want to show you some pictures of the beauty that has happened because people gave generously of their friendship, their time, their creativity and their energy. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my blog.

I like the way it makes me feel about myself. To be able to grow something, nourish life and keep it alive. I actually feel proud of what I have accomplished. On a bad day when I beat myself up about something stupid all I have to do is go look at plants or pot something! I feel great about me!

Getting a Licence Does Not Make You a Driver! - By Mr. Prakash Iyer

He is 58 years old, bespectacled with distinguished silver grey hair. He’s spent 25 years working for one of India’s most respected corporate houses. I have learnt a lot from him. But it is unlikely you would have ever heard of him. His name is Karunan. And he worked with me as my driver.

Sometimes, the biggest lessons in life come from very unlikely sources. And as Karunan spoke to me one morning about his life and times, I thought young people would benefit from listening to what he has to say. Since Karunan will probably never be invited to deliver a convocation speech or a commencement address at a college, I decided to share those lessons with you. Here goes:

1. Getting a driving licence does not make you a driver. “I was 18 when I got my licence. But it was only after several months of driving a car that I actually learnt to drive, and became a real driver.” Young people must remember that. A licence is only a permit – and not a stamp of authority. An MBA does not make you a manager. It is only after you spend several more years learning on the job that you truly qualify to call yourself a manager. Many young people confuse getting a degree as signifying the end of their learning. Wrong. It’s just the beginning. A degree or a diploma – the licence – simply marks you out as someone qualified to learn from real life experiences. It doesn’t make you an expert.

2. The real world is very different from a classroom. “I learnt to drive a car. But my first job required me to drive a little tempo. The steering wheel was different, and so were the gears. I thought I knew how to drive – but I couldn’t even get the tempo started.” The world outside the classroom is a very different place. That’s as true for engineers and MBAs and accountants as it is for drivers. Get ready to get surprised.

3. Slog. Get your hands dirty. “I spent nights working as a cleaner. That’s when I learnt all about the insides of an automobile. Knowing what’s under the bonnet has made me a better driver today.” Most of the brightest marketing professionals in the country will tell you that they learnt their biggest lessons in the days they spent slogging in small towns selling soaps or colas. There’s no other way. If you want to be successful, work hard, dirty your hands – and go beyond your specific role.

4. In the early years, what you learn is more important than what you earn. “In my first job, the pay was bad but the boss was good. He gave me opportunities to learn, to make mistakes. He trusted me. I banged his tempo quite a bit – and while the dents were quickly repaired and touched up, the lessons I learnt remain firmly etched in my mind.” In your first job – don’t worry about your pay packet or the size of the organization. Get a good boss. A good mentor. That’s priceless.

5. Don’t worry about which car you drive. Focus on being a good driver. “I always wanted to drive the best cars – but rather than complain about having to drive a tempo or a school van or the city transport bus, I focused on driving well. I told myself that if I do that, the good cars will come. And they did.” Now that’s a great lesson. It’s not about the company. It’s about you. Do the best with what you have, wherever you are. Karunan spent fifteen years struggling in odd jobs before landing a driver’s job in one of India’s largest companies. We could all benefit by staying focused on doing a great job – rather than worrying about the next job, or the next promotion. Do a good job. Success and happiness will follow. Inevitably.

Those then are five fabulous life lessons from an unlikely guru. Follow Karunan’s advice and I guarantee they’ll make a difference to your career. And to your life!

The Four Principles Of Sprituality

It is not important whether you believe in spirituality or not, the four principles of spirituality apply to all from the moment one is born and will remain there till the end!

Four principles of spirituality

The First Principle states:

"Whomsoever you encounter is the right one"

This means that no one comes into our life by chance. Everyone who is around us, anyone with whom we interact, represents something, whether to teach us something or to help us improve a current situation.

The Second Principle states:

"Whatever happened is the only thing that could have happened"

Nothing, absolutely nothing of that which we experienced could have been any other way. Not even in the least important detail. There is no "If only I had done that differently, then it would have been different". No. What happened is the only thing that could have taken place and must have taken place for us to learn our lesson in order to move forward. Every single situation in life which we encounter is absolutely perfect, even when it defies our understanding and our ego.

The Third Principle states:

"Each moment in which something begins is the right moment"

Everything begins at exactly the right moment, neither earlier nor later. When we are ready for it, for that something new in our life, it is there, ready to begin.

The Fourth Principle states:

"What is over, is over"

It is that simple. When something in our life ends, it helps our evolution. That is why, enriched by the recent experience, it is better to let go and move on.

Think it is no coincidence that you're here reading this.

If these words strike a chord, it's because you meet the requirements and understand that not one single snowflake falls accidentally in the wrong place!
Be good to yourself.
Love with your whole being.
Always be happy

Love like there's no tomorrow. And if tomorrow comes, well. Love again.

Beautiful words, just had to share...

Bcoz I strongly believe in it..

Incredible India - The Chail, Himachal

Chail was essentially a sleepy little mountain village set in a beautiful locale till the 19th century. Its transformation began in 1893, when the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala decided to create a new summer capital which would be 'better' than Shimla; all this for a bruised ego, after he was banished from Shimla for eloping with Lord Kitchner's daughter. Lord Kitchner just happened to be the Commander-in-Chief of the British Indian Army at that time.

The present Chail is spread over an area of 72 acres on three adjacent hills-the Rajgarh Hill where the Palace is built, the Pandava Hill where the old Residency 'Snow View' is located and where the British Resident lived, and finally the Siddh Tibba, where the temple of Baba Sidhnath is located at a height of 2226 ft. Located on a spur, on a clear day, Chail offers a magnificent and splendid view of the valley. It is an out-of-this-world experience to look down and see the River Sutlej winding its way between the mountains, overlooking at the same time both Kasauli and Shimla (45 km) further via Kufri. It is an even more splendid view in the night, with the distant lights of the surroundings creating its own magic pattern on the horizon.

Nestling in the shelter of virgin forests which cover many untrodden hills, Chail is a tiny resort in the Shiwalik region of Himachal Pradesh and has interesting history; The British Government annexed Chail from the Gurkha General Amar Singh in 1814, along with Shimla Hills. Later, the British Government gifted Chail, a quiet hamlet, part of the erstwhile Keonthal estate, to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.

Originally, it was a part of Keonthal State. Then it came under the sway of the Gorkha warrior Amar Singh. Finally it became a royal resort and summer seat of Maharaja of Patiala. The story behind the rise of Chail as the summer seat of Patiala state is quite interesting.

The year was 1891. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala incurred the wrath of the Commander-in-Chief, Lord Kitchener, who banned his entry into the British summer Capital of Shimla. Enraged, the Maharaja resolved to build himself a new summer Capital better than Shimla. The British Government had already gifted him Chail.

With the majestic snow-capped Shivalik peaks in the background and the beautiful orchards and sylvan pine valleys around reminding one of the many wonders of nature, Chail is sure to cast a spell.

One has to see to believe what poets and writers have been describing the Himalayas as since time immemorial. One is awestruck to see the massive Himalayan ranges, their snow-capped peaks spectacularly gleaming in the sun.

A must see in this place is the palace of the maharaja. Built on three hills, the palace is on Rajgarh Hill, while the Residency Snow View, which was occupied once upon a time by the British Resident, is on Pandhewa Hill. On the third hill, Sabba Tibba, is the township of Chail. The maharaja had planned this palace as a retreat, replete with all necessary things he'd need for relaxation, and therefore, he built hunting and fishing lodges, which are open to the public.

During spring-summer, the rhododendrons are in full bloom and the bright orange hues are a treat to the eyes. So pack your bags and do visit Chail this summer.

Sharan's Calligraphy On Stone

I love creativity and calligraphy has given me a platform to nurture it more and more. I always facinated with Nature as all of us do but I need to capture the glimpse of it in my life to make it more memorable and enthusiastic.

I was doing River rafting in Satulaj, Tattapani during Oct 2014 at Himachal.  Incredbile experience and at the bank of it I saw lovely small colorful stones. I just started picking it up one by one, they were so amazing in various shapes in crystal clear water. The trip was going to end and I wanted to taking these gifts from the trip as the trip was amazing in various reasons. Then I thought to make some good stuff and writing on Stone was such a fantastic idea that I just had to share it…

Basically what you do is you get hold of some stones and you write on them. You write key things from your testimony on them as I did it for my near and dear ones, family, friends and off course of Lovely Garden too.

You can also use Sharpie Paint Markers for this project. You might want to use a finishing coat to protect your artwork like Spray Matte Clear. If you prefer, you can use the satin or glossy finish too.

You should wash and rinse the stones to get them as clean as possible. Then let them sit in the sun – or overnight- to dry. Use whichever pen you like the best to do your artwork. I have used both the permanent markers and the paint pens.
When you have your projects completed, you can arrange a nice little rock garden with them, or set them around your favorite plants, or by pathways. Let your imagination be your guide! Make a nice bowl of sayings for your table like in the photo.
You can do this artwork on a grander scale too. Do pavers in your walkways, bricks in a wall, larger rocks for a garden or pond area.

How to Achieve Ambitious Goals

Do you get jealous of the couple next door? You know, the people who seem to have everything including a big house, nice car, and leftover money for holidays with the kids? Don’t be.

Set your sights and make it happen.

I am currently building a house, about to go on a trip overseas, and planning on starting my own business in the next few years. All of this and I’m only 20 year old and admittedly on a very low income. How do I do it?

I’m going to let you know how I achieve all those big goals that so many people think they can’t do. You can’t just wait around for the perfect opportunity because more likely than not, it will never come. Create your own opportunities and you will get what you want.

Know what you want

The key to accomplishment is to be motivated, determined, and positive. It is not going to be easy, there will be many bumps and bruises along the way and you will never get through them if you go into this project half-heartedly. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. Know your direction and pursue it – - in full.

Brainstorm

Get a piece of paper and write down all your ideas about your goal. Be as ambitious as you want, but be ready to be flexible down the road because all plans change at some point.

Organise

Get all of those ideas you just wrote down and organize them into workable groups. Say you want to start your own business? Your ideas could be put into groups such as: what your company will do, what staff you plan to have, what kind of customers you want, where your business will be, etc.

Budget

Do some research and find out how much money your goal is going to cost you. If you want to go on holiday, go online to get prices of flights, accommodation, travel expenses, etc. Try not to underestimate, you don’t want to be running into hidden expenses later on.

Sort out your finances

This can be a tedious job but is essential for goals that involve spending money. Know what money is coming in, and where your money is going out, then look at your budget. Do you need to cut back on your spending to save more? Most of the time, this is where people give up on their goal because they aren’t willing to sacrifice. Will you need to temporarily get a second job? Will you need a loan?

Timeline

Break your goal up into smaller goals, and put them along a timeline. This will not necessarily be the exact way it pans out, but if you have a rough idea of when you want to achieve your goal, you have something to work towards.

Plan

So now it is time to formulate your plan of action. Put all of the essential information you have into one document, then you can know what you need to achieve and when you want to do it.

Implement

This is where your motivation, determination and positive attitude kick in. Unless something substantial and unforeseen happens, you should have no reason not to carry out all the steps to achieving your goal. And even if it does, that does not mean you have failed in your attempt. Just go back through the steps you have taken and see if there is a way you can overcome it.

This list sounds simple because it is. There is no reason for anyone to sit and wallow in regret or doubt when it comes to hitting goals. Make it a simple process that allows for a slow progression and you’ll see just how simple it can be!

7 Great Ways To Track Your Progress Towards Your Goals

I recently wrote about how we can make sure that we achieve the goals we set. One of the important factors in this process, which helps us to stay focused on our goals, is tracking progress.

Tracking progress is important if you want to ensure that you are on the right path. For example, let’s suppose that you’ve set a goal to lose 30 pounds in the next 3 months.

would subsequently create an action plan which involves regular exercising and a balanced diet. Now would you check your weight every week or only after the 3 month period? No, of course not! You’d check your weight each week to be sure your process is working. Why wait 3 months to figure out that your plan is flawed?

Another advantage of tracking is that generates a feeling of self-satisfaction, or quick gratification. This is important because that further motivates you to work harder to reach your targets. Jerry Seinfeld’s method of tracking is a great example of this: Don’t break the chain!

When you have a lot of goals, tracking progress might become difficult. Here are some cool tools which aim to make this job easier for you.

43 Things

43 Things is a popular tool to list your goals, track them and also share them with your friends. It is also a social network of people having different lists and goals. You can connect with them and talk to them. In fact it can automatically connect you with people having same goals.

Get Goaling

Get Goaling is another nice free tool which provides a comprehensive dashboard to help you set goals, prepare action plans, track progress and share your experience. You can track the goals by due date and percentage completed.

Stickk

As the name suggests, Stickk is a web app which helps you stick to your goals and commitments. And its approach is quite innovative. It asks you to set stakes and make a commitment contract. What’s at stake ? Your hard earned money !

I think this tool could be quite effective for those who are born procrastinators and just can’t meet their targets. You don’t keep your commitment and you lose money. You reach your goal and you don’t pay a penny. Simple.
There are other nice features too like an option to choose a referee who can be any person monitoring you at regular intervals. So apart from the psychological pressure of losing money, there’s also a real person to nudge you if you become lazy and procrastinate.

Track-n-Graph

Track-n-graph is a free service to track just about anything and that includes your goals too. It shows you the data in nice and detailed graphs which can be shared with the world. Also, it provides a tracker catalog which has some pre-defined tracking templates to save you time.

Google Calendar

I knew Google Calendar could be used as a to-do list but didn’t know that it could be used as a comprehensive goal management app until I came across this great article. So you can use your Google Calendar to track your progress too.

To-do lists

To-do lists usually are used for everyday tasks and short term goals. But I think they can be used to remind you and nudge you to achieve your long term goals as well. They may not be able to track your progress but they are good way to remind yourself that there’s a task left.

Some notable to-do list apps are Remember the Milk, Todoist and Ta-da List.
Pen and Paper

The significance of pen and paper cannot be undermined even in this highly wired world. Both these tools are still one of the best ways to write down and track just about anything.

So when you can’t decide how you should track your progress, just write down the goals and the action plan to achieve them. Then begin each day by writing down what you need to do and end the day by documenting what you were able to do.

Goals and Achieving Them

Sometime back, Seth Godin wrote a thought provoking post on goals. He mentioned that it’s really easy to not have goals and live in the present. But that is what most of us do.

And those who walk that extra mile, deliver, and make an impact are the people who have goals. They set goals and don’t lose sight of it till they have achieved them.

I wish we all could be like them. How many of you have kept up with your new year resolutions? It has been only few days since you made those promises to yourself. But I can bet that most of you have already given up. And that’s the thing about goals. Setting them is easy. Losing sight of them…easier.

I am not someone who achieves every goals he sets; I struggle and procrastinate too. But I have improved over the past few months. And I have realized that just thinking about a goal doesn’t help you achieve it. There are certain other factors which should be taken into consideration while setting goals and while trying to achieve them.

Here are some of the tips which I think can help us set goals and achieve them. And if you are someone who has been successful in setting and achieving goals in the past then make sure you talk about it in the comments.

Take a firm decision

I think it’s all about the will power really. So before setting any goal, whether it’s a goal related to your career or a simple personal goal, make sure you take a firm decision in your mind that no matter what happens you will stick to them. Pledge firmly that you won’t forget about them until you achieve them.

Get priorities in order

Your goals should be in sync with where you see yourself in the time ahead. They should be in sync with your priorities. Having long term goals isn’t bad but you should first take into account your present situation and where exactly you are failing to improve. Once you get the idea, set goals which get rid of the immediate obstacles and assure an incremental progress.

Write them down

A very simple tip and a very effective one too. Write your goals on a piece of paper and paste it somewhere which can remind you everyday that you need to get them. No, I am not suggesting that you get paranoid. If you think that they won’t go out of your mind and you don’t need to jot them down, it’s good. But if there’s a slightest chance that you’ll lose sight of them, it’s better to have them written down and take a look everyday.

Take a deep look

Once you have written them down, take a deep look. Think about them. Are they realistic goals ? Or are you spreading yourself too thin ? My suggestion is to not set goals just for the sake of it. Whatever goals you have set and then written, make sure you have the strength, willingness and determination to achieve.

Make an action plan

So you have set goals, written them down and now you are all set to start working towards achieving them. First step – make an action plan. There could be more than one method to achieve a goal. Which one suits you ? Decide on it.

Track progress

Extremely important. If you don’t track progress, you don’t get an idea if you are going the right way and if you would ever achieve it in the time frame you had set in your mind. So track your progress everyday. There are various methods and tools to track progress and I’ll discuss them in detail in my next article.

Involve others

It is always good to involve others in the process of setting and achieving goals. Take advice when necessary. And don’t be rigid. There are people out there who are better at this. Their suggestions are always valuable.

Welcome failure

If you learn to welcome failure and keep going, I think there’s nothing which can stop you from achieving your goals. I don’t know anyone who had an absolute smooth run and became successful. Failure is an important part of the entire process. Welcome it. Learn from it.

Persist

Persist. Don’t give up. As I mentioned, there could be many paths leading to the same destination. Try out different methods. Learn and improve. Be patient. Be persistent.

Celebrate

Celebrate when you have successfully taken the next step. You’ve just shortened the path to your destination. Hence stop thinking for a while and enjoy the moment.

Don’t lose sight!

And finally, don’t lose sight of your goals. If we don’t lose sight of it and wade our way through the obstacles, there isn’t a goal which can’t be achieved. So lets stay focused till we reach our destination. Lets not lose sight of it.

Theory of expectation

An experiment by a German school teacher

There is an interesting incident about an Inspector of Schools in Germany who experimented the "Theory of Expectation".

He went to a school and took an instant examination of the students and allotted them marks, which ranged from 30% to 80%. But their marks were kept secret. Out of all students, three students got only 30% marks whereas all other students got more than 50% marks. The Inspector of Schools called these below-average students on the stage, gave them awards and told them that they had obtained 70% marks which were highest in the class. The Inspector also told these students that he will take their test again after three months and this time, he expects them to obtain 90% marks.

Contrary to the opinion of their class teacher, those below-average students were able to obtain 90% marks in their next examination.

Psychologists say and this story proves the Theory of Expectation : "that when we expect a miraculous achievement and give anybody a challenge and encourage him, he is most likely come up to that expectation".

The moment we accept a challenge and set higher goals for us, our energy level increases, mood is elevated and it becomes easily possible for us to achieve the higher goal.

"Goal and Willpower, when properly combined, make an irresistible pair". - Napoleon Hill.

Gabbar : Management Guru Since 1975

GABBAR SINGH KE 9 MANAGEMENT FUNDE...

Gabbar was more than just a ruthless Dacoit he was also a management and marketing genius. Just have a look at all that we can learn from his enterprising character.

1. जो डर गया समझो मर गया !!

This is the most timeless lesson from Gabbar Singh. Courage and enterprise are the most important factors for laying the successful foundation of a growth oriented organization or a happy life.

2. कितने आदमी थे ?

As part of business strategy Gabbar Singh made it a point to understand his competition and knowing that his team was defeated by only two people he understood that even a small team can make a difference .

3. अरे ओ सांभा, कितना ईनाम रखे हैं सरकार हम पर ?

Gabbar knew the importance of promoting one’s own brand. He put it very nicely. When mothers put their kids to sleep saying “so jao nahi toh Gabbar aa jayega” , you know that brand value is built by shamelessly promoting your business.

4. 6 गोली और आदमी 3 बहुत नाइंसाफी है !!

Gabbar Singh had a sense of sarcasm and sadism. He created an illusion that his people had a chance of survival. He kills them in the next scene. Moral: – Perform or you will perish .

5. ले अब गोली खा !!

Sometimes in the interest of the organization the management has to take some hard decisions. He always put the interest of his establishment before himself. So sometimes he had to ‘fire’ some employees.

6. बहुत याराना लगता है !!

Gabbar was good at recognizing emotions and how to milk them for his own good. Through close observation, he found out that Basanti and Veeru were madly in love with each other.

So, he motivated her to shake a leg by threatening her that ‘जब तक तेरे पैर चलेंगे, इसकी साँसे चलेंगी ’. He had a good sense of timing while applying the ‘carrot and stick approach’.

He was also a lover of music and dance. Mehbooba Mehbooba was his favorite bonfire song.

7. बहुत पछताओगे ठाकुर !!

Gabbar never took superficial decisions. Thakur put him behind the bars. He made a promise to himself that ‘Bohot pachtaogey thakur’, and returned from prison to obliterate Thakur’s family and chop off those very limbs that put him behind prison walls.

It shows his resoluteness. Very important factor for success.

8. तेरा क्या होगा रे कालिया ??

This statement shows how much employee feedback is given to the management decisions are taken at the Board of directors meetings only.

9. तू क्या लड़ेगा मुझसे ठाकुर ?

Final lesson. Never underestimate your competition. Gabbar had robbed Thakur of his arms but not of his willpower and intelligence. He finally brings Gabbar to his feet and ends his reign

Discover the power of praise

Appreciation and praise lifts one's spirit and are essential to the growth and well-being of any individual, family or organization. Praise and appreciation generate fresh energy which can now be measured in the laboratory.

Dr. Henry Goddard has invented an instrument to measure the effect of 'praise' and 'appreciation' and also effect of 'criticism' and 'discouragement' on human beings. When a teacher reprimanded a tired student, his energy level curve went downward. On the other hand when the teacher praised a student, his energy level curve moved upward. Every time a student was praised, the instrument showed, he got a fresh dose of energy.

Give appreciation and you will be appreciated. We thrive on appreciation, respect, recognition and assurance of our worth. That is food of our soul. "There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread." Mahatma Gandhi.

However one should be careful while praising. 'Chanakya says' Praise someone only if he deserves. Praise makes good men better and bad men worse.

"Appreciation is a perfect gift for any occasion." Henry Ford. Be quick to praise and you will be surprised at the change in your home and at your work place.

Wishing you a great week ahead!
