Rhythm of my life...

Rhythm
of
My Life…

Five years back, in 2003, when my dreams and my passion confused my destiny, I got the inspiration that I needed to go on…

It was a live concert by Indian Ocean at Pragati Maidan, Lal Chowk when I first saw him, Mr Amit Kilam, the drummer of the band. As mesmerized that I was, I truly believe till date that I have never had a more invigorating experience in my life yet. I can never forget the moment when the great singer Shubha Mudgal suddenly appeared from the audience in a row right before ours.

Watching Mr Amit Kilam gave a new direction to my thoughts. The beat that a drummer provided, gave me an inspiration to try my hands on the art. I went ahead and bought a second hand drum kit. I was always an active member of the music societies in my school and college. But having my own drum kit, this 'extra-curricular activity' became my passion. I started realizing how it created magic for me and pushed me to newer horizons.

I got in touch with several musicians and my guitarist friends and we started practicing together. Slowly our 'band' got recognition as we performed in various college festivals and fresher parties.

In 2005, I interacted with Amit sir in a school show. I had always taken inspiration from him and had always considered him as my mentor, and I still do. It might sound funny but I always considered him like my 'guru', just like Eklavya. I met him in Blue Bells School (in front of LSR), and it was the first personal interaction with him. He was casually juggling a basketball was at complete ease with himself. I was absolutely surprised to meet the humble man inside him and was definitely in awe. It was a pleasant surprise to know that he lived in the same area where we've been residing for the past few years. It definitely is a small world…
We often played the songs of Indian Ocean, especially 'Kandisa', 'Maa Rewa', 'Hille Re' and others. All of them are my personal favourites.

In2007, when again I attended the Indian Ocean concert in C.P., I realized how much the band and the drummer have inspired me. I look back and realize that hadn't it been for them, I would not even be a drummer.

If Mr. Amit Kilam had not inspired me, I would be a mundane and a lifeless body.

I thank him for the heights that we've reached today. We are working professionals who form the band and live our passions. Featured in NDTV India and performance in Times Youth festival has been our greatest victory, all thanks to that one ray of inspiration that drove me.
thanks Boss!

‘Music is food for the soul’

I did not know the above quote to have a lot of substance but I knew it was true, perhaps not to everyone but to me. One may call me a music lover, or rather a music enthusiast, but I know the importance of this phenomenon (that’s music) in my life & that’s what perhaps connects me so deeply to ‘AntarDhvani’ and the strength of this bond lies in the common thread of music that binds us together. Imagine forgetting the world and coming together to create the most mesmerizing and enchanting compositions and feeling them from deep within.

My passion for music is not blind and unreasonable and in fact AntarDhvani provides me with the correct platform to live my passion. AntarDhvani brings together people who love music but at the same time are very successful in their respective careers. I have not given up the world to live my passion. Instead I chose to let my music be my driving force in whatever I do. If I may start talking about how much this band has taught me, the words existing in vocabulary will fail me. It all began when Nishant, our dear lyricist (I owe you buddy), introduced me to Mukesh (a.k.a. Munnu), now the lead guitarist. And then there was no looking back. Each one of my fellow band members have been a source of knowledge to me. I may not have had a professional training in this field but not for a second did I feel restrained. They taught me everything I wanted to learn.
On one hand I had the extremely talented Munnu, who taught me the magnitude of passion in performance, while on the other Sumeet taught me what it takes to be a musician. Nishant da was always a source of encouragement while Ravee, my lovely instructor has been a dear friend. Vishal and Tuheen are probably the pillars of fusion. All of them taught me what rhythm meant and how fusion was created. From the technical details to the performing aspect, all that I know today is because of my fellow band members.
As a percussionist I have discovered myself and have only grown as a musician. Playing with the band is an experience of extreme learning where with each performance my horizon widens. True to its name, AntarDhvani made me understand myself by making me listen to my inner voice, my conscience. It might be small performance at an alumni meet or a big concert with a huge crowd, each time makes me a better human being.
We are an amateur group, but we do not seek fame or fortune. We play because we like to. We play because we want to learn. We play because it feeds our souls.
We play…
to discover ourselves, to be us.
Long Live AntarDhvani.
